Cute Video Audio Merger is a tool that merges audio & video files into a single video file. It supports popular video formats (MP4, SWF, FLV, MOV, WMV, MPG, etc), supports popular audio formats (MP3, OGG, WMA, WAV, etc), carries out batch conversions, and more. Cute Video Audio Merger is very easy to use. Just select your video file, select your audio file, select the format for the merged file (MP4, SWF, FLV or WMV) and the output directory, then click Start. The resultant file has replaced the existing audio on the video with the audio file you have selected. Apart from a lack of quality controls, something we would have preferred to have seen included, Cute Video Audio Merger has one major problem -- it does not fit the length of the audio file to the length of the video file. If the audio file is shorter than the video file then there is a long painful silence after the audio has finished, and vice versa if it is too long -- the audio keeps playing but there is nothing on the screen. Creating an audio track of the correct length is relatively easy in a good audio editor (like Audacity) so, if the important part is the length of the video (as it usually is), then you can use an audio editor to create a track to match the length of your video. Very cumbersome! We believe it would have been better if Cute Video Audio Merger could trim or extend the source audio track to match the length of the video file, possibly using a simple fade-out/fade-in transition if the track is repeated to extend its length, and an optional fade-in at the start and fade-out at the end. As it is, Cute Video Audio Merger lacks the controls to make this a really valuable tool. Get it from here Cute Video Audio Merger v1.210

Visual SlideShow
Visual SlideShow creates a Flash-like slideshow using HTML, JavaScript and CSS. You can adjust the image size & quality (both thumbnail & main images), there is a choice of 5 transition effects, optional auto-play & auto-loop, you can publish to the server or desktop, there is a choice of slideshow themes, you can import photos directly from Flickr or PhotoBucket, it includes the Mootools JavaScript plugin, the generated code is fully XHTML compliant, and more. This is an awesome tool for creating stunning slideshows of your photos. You can publish them directly to your server for on-line display, or to your desktop where the code can be incorporated into an existing HTML page. Alternatively you can view them on your desktop using your Web browser or even burn them to a CD for distribution to your family and friends. Simple to use, just drag 'n drop your photos into Visual Slideshow, re-arrange their order if required, adjust the settings in the Gallery Properties dialog box (image sizes, transition effect, etc) and then click on the Publish button. The final slideshow is excellent, and the machinery to run your slideshow (not counting the photos) is a tiny 110kB. By specifying the size and quality of your photos, you can reduce a multi-megabyte image down to just a few hundred kilobytes. To view the sample Visual Slideshow we created, go to http://www.thecockatoo.com/visualslideshow/ where the entire slideshow, including 18 photos and their thumbnails, is just 1.5MB. The only downside with the free version of Visual Slideshow is that there is a small watermark at the bottom of each photograph which gives the program's Web address. One of the best slideshow creation tools we have seen, Visual Slideshow is worth grabbing from here Visual Slideshow

Windows Capture Tool
SchirmFoto is a capture tool for acquiring snapshots of your screen. It features a camera icon in the titlebar of every window, you can export or e-mail the capture (to PDF, HTML, MHT, RTF, XLS or as an image), it offers zoom, scale, page setup, and more. This should be an excellent screen capture tool but, in some ways, it falls a little short of expectations. The main problem is that it does not offer hotkey or timed capturing so you can only capture a windowed program, and then only once. Click on the icon in the top left hand corner of all windows and it will capture a screenshot of that window and then open up the program to process it -- which means that you cannot take a series of screenshots from, say, a game (specially if that game is being played fullscreen so there is no titlebar). Once you have the capture, SchirmFoto does an excellent job of presenting it for you in a variety of formats -- to your printer, to the Windows Clipboard for pasting into another program
, you can export it to five different document formats or seven different image formats (BMP, EMF, WMF, GIF, JPG, PNG or TIF). This German-made program has two tabs, one is labeled "Print Preview" and the other is labeled "Seiteneinstellungen" (which Yahoo! Babel Fish translates as "Side attitudes" -- aren't you glad you asked...). Apart from the lack of hotkey capture support, SchirmFoto has a couple of bad habits. The first is that it demands that you register (which is free) but then it took a number of attempts to get the program to accept the code sent to us (it kept claiming that we hadn't registered when we had -- and the program had accepted the registration code!). Then there is the nag when you close the program says that they "expect a small tip". The program is either free or it isn't -- nagging for a donation or tip is like asking for payment to use the program. Not nice. If you don't mind the negative aspects of SchirmFoto, you will find that the screen capture is excellent and you will have lots of choices what to do with the capture. Organizing Desktop
Fences is a Windows enhancement that assists in organizing the desktop by grouping icons into "fenced areas" and optionally hiding icons when not in use. It features a simple-to-use setup, you can customize color & opacity, it has low system impact, you can take & restore snapshots of your layouts for backup, and more. This is an unusual tool for "roping off your desktop" by grouping icons and folders into either automated "fences" or by manually creating "fences" and placing specific icons inside them. The author says: "Fences allows you to create shaded areas on your desktop that you can place icons in. You can label them however you wish, and move/resize them anywhere on the desktop. Pre-included layouts help speed the process for new users." While you can turn off Fences from within the program, icons are not returned to their original position and, if you use the snapshot feature to restore the original layout, there are a number of small differences which we do not find pleasing. The only way to fully restore the original look 'n feel of the desktop is to uninstall the program. One feature we did really like about Fences was its ability to hide your desktop icons so that the wallpaper could be seen in all its glory. Those icons could be just as easily restored when they were needed. If you like to dress up your desktop then Fences is well worth checking out.

CSS3 Menu v1.2
Creating a nice looking menu no longer needs all the code and time it use to, thanks to CSS3. Using this FREE CSS3 Menu you can create great looking buttons using just CSS3 in a few clicks.
CSS3 is changing how we build websites. Even though many of us are still reluctant to start using CSS3 due to the lack of support in some browsers, there are those out there that are moving forward and doing some amazing stuff with its cool new features. No longer will we have to rely on so much JavaScript and images to create nice looking website elements such as buttons and menu navigations.
You can build a cool rounded navigation menu, with no images and no Javascript, and effectively make use of the new CSS3 properties border-radius and animation. This menu works perfectly well with Firefox, Opera, Chrome and Safari. The dropdown also works on non-CSS3 compitable browsers such as IE7+, but the rounded corners and shadow will not be rendered. CSS3 transitions could one day replace all the fancy jQuery animation tricks people use.
Menu Features
- No Javascript is required
- Multi-level dropdown menu is created using CSS3 rounded corners, CSS3 shadow (box-shadow and text-shadow).
- Opacity, backround and font colors, linear gradient and radial CSS3 gradient are also supported.
- Search engines and text-only browsers friendly.
- The menu is based on HTML list of links (UL/LI structure) and CSS only. No additional non-css params are used.
- Immediate loading of the menu. Doesn't use additional files.
- Supports all modern browsers (except IE6).
- Visual design user interface allows you to create your menus without the need for complex hand coding. Use the preview window to view your menu design while you are developing and customizing.

Audio Extractor
Audio Extractor For Free is a tool that extracts audio from video files without loss of sound quality. It supports most popular audio formats (MP3, WMA, AAC, FLAC, WAV, RA, MP2, OGG, M4A, AC3 & AU), supports most popular video formats (AVI, DivX, XviD, MPEG, MPG, WMV, ASF, MOV, QT, FLV, SWF, MP4, M4V, 3GP, 3G2, RM, RMVB, MKV, VOB, FLV, OGM, AMV, etc), carries out batch conversions, and more. If you wish to extract audio from video files (a person singing, etc) then Audio Extractor For Free is what you need. It can also convert between the supported audio formats. According to the author's Website, it supports a huge number video formats, though it does not seem to support as many audio formats as claimed. Likewise, the Helpfile supplied with the program indicates that can convert between video formats (video to video). We could see no evidence of it being able to carry out this function. That aside, Audio Extractor For Free does an excellent job of ripping audio from video fi
les, and for converting between audio formats. In most cases you can control the audio quality, though you cannot improve the quality from that of the original. Download it from here Audio Extractor

Malware & Spyware removal utility
IObit Security 360 is a malware & spyware removal utility that detects & removes the deepest infections. It features real-time protection, works with existing anti-virus programs, offers a 1-click solution, it is easy to use, uses DOG (Digital Original Gene) which is a novel heuristic malware detection method, uses a "Dual-Core" anti-malware engine, and more. This is a fantastic tool which works with existing anti-virus programs to ensure the best possible detection and removal of malicious software (malware). Because no program can possibly detect all possible threats, it is valuable to run programs like IObit Security 360 in conjunction with more mainstream anti-virus programs -- they compliment each other rather than cause conflict. IObit Security 360 detected 83 "threats" on our test computer, though most were simply cookies you pick up from sites with advertising (like Google ads) to track if you make a purchase or visit the advertiser's site. They are not malicious and
cause no particular harm. However, three of the threats were more real and we were pleased to see them detected and removed. We were very impressed with IObit Security 360. While we are not as frightened of cookies as some (and you can always turn them off in your Web browser) we appreciated being given the opportunity to delete them. The free version of IObit Security 360 does not include automatic updates (you must manually get them), and it lacks automatic scanning, however it does provide real-time protection. Version Update
VersionUpdate is an online software version checker to ensure that you have up-to-date versions of your installed software. It directly connects to a software publisher's Website to check for newer versions, it checks what versions other users are using (you may find a version newer than yours), and more. This is a fabulous way of ensuring that your software is always up-to-date. However, it has a couple of built-in problems. First, it checks up to 200 programs so, if like us, you have more, then the additional ones are not checked (you cannot specify which ones to check and which ones to ignore). Secondly, it is not always up-to-date with the latest version from the software publishers. In a few cases, we had later versions than the ones reported. Have it here Version Updater

CD & DVD burner
CD-DVD Indepth is a CD & DVD burner that creates compilations of files and/or folders. It supports both ASPI & SPTI writing modes, allows multi-session disks, has a test mode (burning simulation), erases rewritable CD/DVDs before burning, optionally creates a bootable disk, and more. CD-DVD Indepth uses a simple 10-screen Wizard interface to lead the user through the process of creating a data disk. While the publisher states that it can "burn or rip audio and data CDs and DVDs", we could find no way of ripping or burning audio CDs -- this is a data burner only. However, it does a creditable job in burning data CDs and DVDs, and offers the tools so that it can be used in basically all versions of Windows from 95. Unfortunately, it contains very intrusive RelevantKnowledge advertising. We object strongly to this type of advertising because it not only runs independently of the host program, but does not automatically get removed when the host program is uninstalled. Fortunatel
y, you can uninstall RelevantKnowledge separately and it won't prevent the host program, in this case CD-DVD Indepth, from working. If you are looking for a data burner program, and you don't want to burn multiple copies within the same session, then check out CD-DVD Indepth.

CSS Menu
CSS3Menu is a program that creates great looking menus for HTML pages using CSS3. It features 26 templates, support for non-Javascript browsers (or browsers with Javascript turned off), it is highly configurable using CSS3 attributes (you can change the border-radius, box-shadow, text-shadow, opacity, background & font colors, linear & radial gradients, etc), it is SEO friendly, it has an easy-to-use GUI interface, it supports all modern browsers (except IE6), and more. If you have created your own Website and are looking for a cool menuing system, then check out CSS3Menu. The templates provides are in two categories, Android and Mac, and most of the variations are color changes. However, you can manually alter colors, styles, etc through the GUI interface. For example, the menu blocks normally have rounded corners, but they can be changed from squared boxes to almost a circle. Fly your cursor over most template models and the menu box changes color. VOB Converter
VOB Converter is a tool that converts videos to the VOB video format. It supports all popular video formats (WMV, MP4, VOB, MKV, FLV, VOB, MPG, AVI, MOV, etc), offers variable output settings (bitrate, frame rate & frame size), and more. This is one of the simplest ways of converting your videos to the VOB format. Simply select a suitable video, select the output quality you desire, and click on the Convert button. Easy. We tested VOB Converter on one of our videos and the result was exactly as described. However, it should be noted that this does not create the file structure suitable for burning to a movie DVD, for that you need a program like DVD Flick (also listed with CFS). If you are looking an easy way to convert your videos to the VOB format then try VOB Converter. It could be exactly what you require. Download it here VOB Convertor

Mathematical Notepad
Math-o-mir is a mathematical notepad which emulates pencil and paper for writing equations. It features the ability to add & edit complex equations, it has a virtual keyboard, there is hotkey support, it includes a simple line editor, a function plotter, a symbolic calculator, you can print equations, there is a downloadable manual, and more. This is an awesome tool if you work with mathematical equations. While it is not quite as easy as using pencil and paper, it gets very close. Using a series of built-in macros, the author has created a tool that allows the user to create very complex, multi-page equations -- and then print them out and/or save them as MOM files (which can be opened for further editing in Math-o-mir). There is a superb manual in PDF format, but the author has elected not to include it in the program's download. It is an additional (and very necessary) 381kB file. You can use the built-in line editor to create simple hand-drawings which can be placed into
your document to illustrate your equations. Neat. There is a small learning curve to get the best from Math-o-mir. For best speed, the macros must be learnt (for example, typing // opens up the fraction editor), as does some of the hotkeys (for example, Ctrl+R brings up the square root editor) but you can use the toolbar on the left hand side of the screen to access these. It is impossible not to be impressed with Math-o-mir. While it is somewhat complex to use, the advantages to using it are worthwhile for anyone working with post-Elementary level math. Car Racing
Road Attack is a car racing arcade game where you shoot other vehicles. It features shoot-em-up action with sophisticated weaponry, lots of powerups to collect, time-based gameplay, good graphics, and more. This is a lightweight racing game with lots of gratuitous violence and shooting. It is also lots of fun. In this game you race to the finish line, avoiding traps (water on the road, broken pavement, etc) while collecting as many powerups as you can and trying not to get shot by other vehicles. The storyline behind Road Attack is so weak they didn't even bother to produce one, but the game is fun in a silly way and it is surprisingly addictive. Produced by MyPlayCity, it carries an ad when the game is loading but that is the only time the ad is played. Like all MyPlayCity ads, it appears to be benign. Road Attack won't stretch your mind, though it might stretch your credibility. Download from here Road Attack.....

Alert Calendar
Alert Calendar is a calendar with a blinking alert to advise you that an event has been scheduled for that day. It features a choice of once-only or monthly events, it is an easy to read monthly calendar, it can optionally start with Windows, Helpfile, and more. This is a neat little calendar with the provision to add once-only and/or monthly alerts. On the date of the event, the program's tray icon will blink so you know that there was an event scheduled that day. The blinking is extremely annoying after a short period, but it can be turned off from within the main window. However, Alert Calendar would have carried out its function by then, which is what is important. If you use it at an event reminder you will have to have it load automatically with Windows, but if you are just looking for a calendar, then you could place an icon on the desktop to launch the program. Alert Calendar requires no installation so is easy to remove should you decide it was not for you. Have it from here Alert Calendar....

MP3 Search Tool
Songr is a multi-engine MP3 search tool. It features results from up to 16 MP3 search engines, it grays out low bitrate & preview-only MP3s, has intelligent sorting of results, it downloads or plays the selected title, and more. If you like to grab MP3 songs from the Internet, then Songr is a tool you may find useful. Type in an artist's name, or the name of a song, and it will search all 16 MP3 search engines and give you the results. You can then listen to any selection using your default multimedia player, listen to a preview, or download your selection. It also links to YouTube, and will open YouTube pages in your Web browser, but its claim to be able to download YouTube videos, or extract audio from them, is not correct at the time of this review (we believe that YouTube regularly changes the way it works to prevent this from happening). Songr can also take a small portion of the lyrics of a song and, in most cases, offer you a selection of songs that use those lyrics. Grab it here Songr....

Youtube Video Downloader
Super Free Youtube Video Downloader is a small program to download and save YouTube videos. It features support for multiple downloaded clips, save clips in either FLV (standard quality) or MP4 (high quality) file format, it is simple to use, and more. This is a nice little YouTube downloader. To download you just click on the "New task" button, paste the YouTube address of the clip you want to save into the dialog box, and the location and name of the clip, and click the OK button. Super Free Youtube Video Downloader will then download the clip to your computer, saving it as the nominated filename in the nominated location. When you open the program it asks you if you want to check for an update, but all it does is to open the company's Website in your browser (assuming you are on-line). You must still manually check if the version you have is the latest version. We were also a little critical of the requirement to nominate a filename for your YouTube clip -- it doesn't auto
matically take the name used by YouTube which is a shame. Fortunately, it does return to the last used folder on your computer (handy if, like us, you have a special folder just for YouTube videos). The best part of Super Free Youtube Video Downloader is that is it is really easy to use -- even a complete novice would have no trouble with this program. Get it here YouTube Downloader...

eBay Deal Hunter
Deal Hunter is a tool that searches & tracks ongoing deals on eBay, sending e-mail alerts a few minutes before the bid is closed. It features an alert only if the deal is less than the set amount, there is no limit on the number of searches, you can exclude items on your search, the only information required is your e-mail address (and then only if you want the alerts), and more. This is a handy tool if you like to bid on eBay and want some help in tracking searches. You can use Deal Hunter to perform a very precise eBay search by using the "exclude" function. Should you decide to use it to assist with your bidding, it can send you an e-mail notification at a set time prior to the auction finishing (default is 10 minutes for the first alert) assuming that the amount is still under your preset maximum. For non-US users, Deal Hunter has one major drawback -- it only checks US eBay and cannot be used to check eBay in other countries. However, even non-US users can get some benef
it from it if they are prepared to purchase from the USA. Have it here Deal Hunter...

Image Viewer
Imagina is an image viewer and editor (a virtual lightbox). It features either a 2D or 3D image display, it supports over 35 image & video formats, has a built-in slideshow with transitions, offers basic image editing (noise reduction, contrast/brightness, etc), offers quick image fixes, tagging, and more. This "virtual lightbox" is an excellent way to display your images and, if necessary, even carry out some basic editing. The 3D look is excellent, though it falls well short of being true 3D, and the slideshow has a number of transitions you can select. However, the best part of Imagina is the huge number of image formats it can display, plus quite a few popular video formats too. However, the video display suffers from a lack of control -- no "play", "pause", "rewind" or "fast forward" buttons -- when you click on a video it plays from start to finish. Videos can also be incorporated into your slideshow, enhancing the whole slideshow experience enormously, but it too suffe
rs from a lack of control. The slideshow can be stopped at any time but you cannot manually skip a video (or photo) during a presentation, only stop the whole show. That minor glitch aside, Imagina is without doubt one of the better image viewers available. Download from here Imagina....

Right-Click Extender
Right-Click Extender is a Windows enhancing tool that adds selected items to the right-click context menu. It adds up to 69 items in 4 categories (File/Folder, Desktop, Drives & MyComputer), it can optionally include an icon with the listing, includes a one-click System backup/restore (Registry & System Restore Point), and more. This is a great way to add some basic functionality to Windows by selectively adding items to the right-click context menus. Simply select the item(s) that you want and click on "Apply" to have them added to the appropriate context menu. Easy. The author says: "Right-Click Extender is designed for Windows 7, but should work with Windows Vista as well. While not designed for Windows XP some features will work with XP as well, but if you try it and you don't find the feature added, this is due to certain features not being available for XP." If you want to add some items to the right-click context menus then grab a copy of Right-Click Extender. Grab it here Right Click Extender
